Khokhlova V. A. Ethno-Specificity of Evaluation Semantics of the English and Ukrainian Toponymic Phraseology. The present article deals with the British and Ukrainian toponymic phraseology in terms of its evaluation semantics. The object of investigation is phraseological units with the toponymic component in the modern English and Ukrainian languages. The subject is the description of the features of phraseological units' evaluation semantics with the toponymic component in terms of their ethnic and cultural identity. The purpose of this article is to identify general and individual in the emotional evaluation semantics of phraseological units with the toponymic component in the English and Ukrainian languages. Due to the high emotional and evaluative potential of phraseological units, in general, and phraseological units with the toponymic component, in particular, these units can be treated as an interesting object of study in terms of the comparative analysis from the point of view of the culturological opposition ''one’s own – somebody else's'' (native – strange), which contributes to the identification of ethno-specific coloring of units under study in the English and Ukrainian language model of the world. The study of evaluation semantics of phraseological units with the toponymic component in the English and Ukrainian languages shows the predominance of the negative connotation in phraseological units with ''foreign'' place names, as all foreign is commonly associated with something bad, incomprehensible and unknown. English and Ukrainian culture is evaluated positively though some self- criticism in relation to their own countries is inherent. Key-words: phraseological unit, toponym, toponymic phraseology, evaluation semantics, national-cultural semantics.
